Whether it be success in fitness, in business, or in life, success takes time, devotion and courage. Why? Because anyone that’s made it to the top of their game will tell you that success and failure come hand in hand. What factor determines those who take the plunge and create a life of success, versus those who choose not to bother? An acceptance that failure is all part of the journey.
The journey to success requires action, and a key driver in avoiding action is the fear of “but what if it fails!?” Yes, failure hurts, but it’s how you grow. It’s key to remember that there are two sides to every story, so why not ask yourself “what if it succeeds?” instead. It’s a far more empowering question with limitless potential for your progress.
Human beings are a funny bunch. We will do almost anything to avoid failure, but if we were to succeed all the time, where’s all the fun? Great leaders and successful figures all know that success comes hand-in-hand with failure, and they make the journey an enjoyable one. Why? They know that through failure comes not only an understanding of what doesn’t work, but also an appreciation for what it takes to bring their dreams alive.
Stop second-guessing your motives and speculating failure in it’s tracks. Take your ideas and run with them in either of these two directions:
- Toward completion – persist and finish the task, moving forward to new challenges; or
- Straight for the eject button – if the idea doesn’t work or doesn’t make you feel good, just drop it. Stop wasting time dwelling on low-value tasks in favour of those that have a greater potential for your growth.
